Indegene was about 250 employees strong and had acquired two companies in the United States. There was a need to change the organization structure to enable us to leverage our expertise and grow rapidly. We were looking for a consultant who had the right experience and conceptual knowledge to help us choose the right organization structure.
Dr. Yegneshwar spent time to understand the Indegene business context, its strategies and growth plans. He then went on to help us evaluate various structural options and choose the most appropriate structure for our needs. Ours is a large group of companies focusing on diverse areas of manufacturing as well as services. Our Corporate IT has been providing various services to different group companies that have led to both cost savings as well as value creation. In line with our objective of delivering measurable returns to business, we wanted to define a scorecard that reflected the vision and KRAs of the Corporate IT function.
It is in this context that we engaged Dr. Yegneshwar of Competency Catalysts. We were keen to utilize the services of a consultant who had an understanding of IT and scorecard definition processes, as well as who understood the business context, challenges and nuances. When we initially made contact with Dr. Yegneshwar of Competency Catalysts, we were an 80-strong India based development and professional services center operating in support of the US-based parent organization. The plan was to grow the operation in India aggressively to about 400+ within a couple of years and have this serve as a crucible of talent and excellence for the worldwide organization. However, though we had a formal entry level engineers training program, we had none for the rest of the organization. To build scale, there was a strong need to build competencies in a planned manner for the various roles.
We engaged Dr. Yegneshwar since he has wide experience in technical and managerial education as well as in leadership development. Dr. Yegneshwar helped us define the competency dictionary, map it for various roles and define a role-based training curriculum. In addition, he facilitated the roll out of the development plan within the organization. In essence, it was a comprehensive approach that was not only conceptually sound, but also actionable and relevant for an organization like ours. The competency mapping helped set expectations, the training plan was more structured and we began to see the benefits of the exercise very soon. Dr. Yegneshwar also augmented the entry level training program to include aspects of business domain understanding as well as a holistic understanding of the technologies involved.
